Katie’s Second Book Out Now!
Worcester and Malvern have long been known for literary inspiration, with works from giants like C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Charles Dickens. However, all literary giants start somewhere, and the area continues to inspire emerging authors who breathe new life into storytelling today.
Here at Severn Vale Home Care, we’re always proud to celebrate the achievements of our team and local community. Today, we’re delighted to highlight Katie Masterman, a member of our management team, who has released her second book, The Lotus in the Dark!
Katie lives in Worcester and is a key member of the management team here at Severn Vale Home Care. Outside of work, she juggles the busy life of being a mum to two young children—and somehow still finds time to write books!
A New Chapter for Katie
Katie’s new novel, The Lotus in the Dark, is a gripping mix of fantasy and psychology. Spanning 387 pages, the book was officially released on 28th February 2024. Its message is as uplifting as it is inspiring:
“Like a lotus, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.”
Katie has brought this sentiment to life in her latest work, combining her love of storytelling with her background in forensic psychology to create a truly unique and compelling read.
Katie’s Journey to Authorship
Katie’s love for writing began at an early age. As a child, she enjoyed writing short stories for her family, but it wasn’t until she turned 18 that she started her first novel, The Dolls House. Life’s many commitments meant her early ideas sat untouched for years—until the first lockdown in 2020 gave her the time to bring them together.
Her debut book, a psychological thriller with a romantic twist, marked the start of her literary journey. However, it’s her second novel, The Lotus in the Dark, that Katie feels truly showcases her growth as a writer.
The Making of The Lotus in the Dark
Over the course of two years, Katie poured her heart into creating The Lotus in the Dark. With the support of an editor and illustrator, she crafted a novel that’s both polished and deeply engaging.
Katie’s love for fantasy literature played a big role in shaping the book’s themes. Balancing her busy life as a mum of two, a full-time worker, and an avid reader, Katie has achieved something truly extraordinary.
