Pedalling for a Cause: Platform Housing Group Raises £10,000 for Dementia UK

The community work of Severn Vale Home Care extends into a range of duties. Business owner Stuart Callister, who is also an Ambassador for Dementia UK, praised the efforts of the staff members from Platform Housing Group, who embarked on a 200-mile bike ride. This impressive feat raised more than £10,000 for Dementia UK, which was chosen as the company’s charity of the year for 2024. This marks the third consecutive year the firm has organised a charity cycle event.

The cycle, held on Wednesday 19 and Thursday, June 20, saw the colleagues take on the full two-day challenge. The journey began at the southern edge of the Peak District and ended in Worcester, covering portions of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Warwickshire.

Joanna Sullivan, head of community fundraising, events and innovation at Dementia UK, expressed her gratitude: “We are so grateful to Platform Housing Group for taking on this incredible challenge for Dementia UK. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime, either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.”

Dementia UK is a specialist nursing charity supporting families affected by dementia. Currently, around 944,000 individuals in the UK are battling dementia, with many others caring for loved ones. The funds raised will help widen the reach of its free support services provided by specialist nurses.

Reflecting on the event, Stuart Callister highlighted the importance of such initiatives. “A big thank you to Platform Housing Group for doing such an impressive cycle event in order to raise a considerable sum to help Dementia UK,” he said. “It was a pleasure to meet the cyclists at the end of the race and enjoy a hard-earned drink. Events like these not only raise vital funds but also bring the community together and raise awareness about dementia. The dedication and effort put in by everyone involved are truly inspiring.”

Stuart Callister’s commitment to his clients and his role as an Ambassador for Dementia UK underscores the broader impact of Severn Vale Home Care. By supporting events like the bike race, Severn Vale not only promotes physical activity and community engagement but also raises awareness and funds for crucial causes. The £10,000 raised for Dementia UK will go a long way in supporting those affected by dementia and their families.
